Over the Whitsun weekend, we once again took visitors at Saalburg on a journey through the world of Roman cuisine. Our kitchen offered a wide range of starters and main courses, whilst the neighbouring wine stand served up a fine glass of mulsum. Those who preferred to taste freshly brewed cervisia or enjoy a sweet dessert in the form of globi found what they were looking for at other booths. Further booths provided information on Roman herbs and spices, as well as the diverse range of tableware. The military were also represented with a contubernium tent, allowing visitors to look over their shoulders as they used their simple cooking area. There was also plenty to see at the Roman ovens, which were being fed at a rapid pace by our hard-working bakers, so that anyone interested could take a fresh loaf of bread home with them.
