Imperial visit at the Roman Days event in Haltern
On the last weekend in August, our camp at the Roman Days event at the LWL Roman Museum in Haltern was visited not only by thousands of spectators, but also by the imperial family. Emperor Tiberius himself did us the honour of visiting the troops in Germania, accompanied by his adopted son Germanicus and his wife Agrippina, and of attending the equestrian games organised especially for him. We accompanied him during the festive procession and ensured that a sacrificial ceremony for Mars, Apollo and Diana was conducted in accordance with tradition. In addition, we were of course there for the spectators with our military and civilian camp, demonstrating attack formations and the training of the legionaries on the drill ground, and putting the artillery into action. Despite the typically Germanic weather with occasional rain showers, we had our hands full answering the numerous questions from the interested public.
