Instead of the usual large-scale event in the Xanten Archaeological Park in June, we pitched our tents there for a small Roman weekend on the last weekend in June. On the meadow directly in front of the entrance to the LVR Roman Museum, we were able to present military drill, artillery, soldierly camp life and civilian crafts to the public in a relaxed atmosphere with the best weather. We were supported by some friendly Celts who took on the role of our auxiliary troops and by two mules who accompanied our soldiers on the march. A successful weekend for sure, not only for us, but also for the numerous visitors who immersed themselves in conversations with us.
